1. A turbine system for submersed use in an electrical generation system, comprising:
a vertical-axis turbine that rotates about an axis in response to fluid flowing toward the turbine in a flow direction that is generally perpendicular to the axis, the vertical-axis turbine including a upper surface and a plurality of upwardly protruding fins extending from an outer region proximate an outer periphery of the vertical-axis turbine; and a rampart device positioned at least partially under the vertical-axis turbine and configured to remain generally stationary during rotation of the vertical-axis turbine, the rampart device including a front region, at least a portion of the front region extending to a vertical height greater than an outer periphery of the vertical-axis turbine. |
