PURPOSE:To form the direct positive image having high max. image density and low min. image density with rapid and stable by developing the image in the presence of a nucleating agent together with a nucleating accelerator. CONSTITUTION:The development of the titled image is processed in the presence of the nucleating agent together with the nucleating accelerator shown by formula I wherein A is a group capable of absorbing silver halide, Y is a divalent binding group composed of an atom or an atomic group selected from the group comprising hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur atoms, R is an org. group contg. at least one of the group selected from thioether, amino, ammonium, ether and a heterocyclic ring group, (n) is 0 or 1, (m) is 1 or 2. Thus, the direct positive image having the high max. image density and the low min. image density is formed with rapid and stable.
