PURPOSE:To aim at improvement in fuel consumption as well as to make economical driving performable, by making a control speed variable according to a control deviation between desired car speed and actual one. CONSTITUTION:Engine power is controlled by a controlling device (b) so as to cause the car speed detected by a car speed detecting device (a) to accord with the desired one. When constant drive takes place, there are provided with a control deviation calculating device (c), calculating a control deviation between the desired car speed and the detected one, and a control speed variable device (d) making the control speed by the controlling device (b) variable according to the control deviation. And, the control speed is made variable according to the control deviation between the desired car speed and the actual one, and when the control deviation is smaller, the control speed is made slower to some extent, and even if followability to the desired car speed is more or less sacrificed, a variation in engine power is made smaller and thereby a car is able to run in a fuel-consumption priority mode, thus the control speed is increased only when the control deviation is large enough.
