Surface protection layer forming method in a magnetic record carrier is provided for easily controlling the thickness of a protection layer without using the melting substance. To form the polymer protection layer on the magnetic layer of a base film, liquid phase polymer of 20≦̸ -300≦̸C is vaporized under the vacuum by an ultrasonic generator. Vaporized polymer may be evaporated onto the magnetic surface of the base film kept at 0≦̸-120≦̸C to form the protection layer with the thickness of 50∦-2000∦. The polymer substance is pref. photosynthetic acrylate copolymer.
