The digital transmission system employs simplified and highly precise A/D and D/A converters for the audio signals. These converters use linear interpolation. The analog input signal (x) passes via an amplifier (VI) to the A/D converter (A-D) and via a discriminator (D1) to a store (SPI). A summation circuit (SM) adds the store output to the A/D converter output to form the digital transmission signal (y). At the receiver the digital signal passes via a second discriminator (D2) to a second store (SP2). A subtractor (DF) subtracts the store output from the received digital signal and passes the difference to the D/A converter (D-A).
