A method of promoting aggregation of activated platelets on a site with exposed vWF and collagen, the method comprising: administering to the site with exposed vWF and collagen a synthetic platelet comprising a biocompatible flexible nanoparticle that includes an outer surface and a plurality of peptides conjugated to the surface, the peptides including a plurality of von Willebrand factor-binding peptides (VBPs), collagen-binding peptides (CBPs) and an active platelet GPIIb-IIIa-binding peptides (GBPs), wherein the synthetic platelet adheres to a vascular surface, vascular disease site, and/or vascular injury site with exposed von Willebrand factor and collagen and promotes arrest and aggregation of active platelets onto sites of the synthetic platelet adhesion.
