1. A motor vehicle diagnostics apparatus comprising:
a diagnostics unit including first and second connector ports, the connector ports being used for connecting the diagnostics unit in line in a motor vehicle control system between first and second vehicle components of the vehicle control system with the first connector port between the first vehicle component and the diagnostics unit and the second connector port between the second vehicle component and the diagnostics unit; the apparatus being operable to detect by means of the diagnostics unit one or more electrical signals generated by the first component for application to the second component and to provide an output in response to the detected signals; and wherein the apparatus is operable to perform a test of at least one cable and/or connector connecting the first connector port to the second connector port by transmitting a signal from the first connector port to the second connector port via said at least one cable and/or connector, in use.
