<p>Changing of the width of the section being cast in a continuous sequence casting plant equipped with an adjustable continuous casting mould is effected without shut down by lowering the melt level in the mould to expose its upper portion, making the necessary adjustment to its position, placing a scrap filled sheet metal fabrication cooling element on the exposed surface of the lower profile section, allowing the melt to rise again during which the lower mould section altered to conform with the upper. The two sections of the mould are fitted with hydraulic cylinders for effecting the movement. Pref. the first is positioned by reference to a scale whilest the second is located by means of electrical contacts between the two sections.</p> |
