A method for implementing communication between virtual machines, applied to a system comprising at least a first virtual machine and a second virtual machine, wherein the first virtual machine communicates with a first switch, and the second virtual machine communicates with a second switch, comprising:
receiving, by a software defined network (SDN) controller, an Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) request from the first switch, wherein the ARP request carries an IP address of the second virtual machine; obtaining, by the SDN controller, a Media Access Control (MAC) address of the second virtual machine according to the IP address of the second virtual machine; obtaining, by the SDN controller, a virtual extensible local area network tunnel end point (VTEP) address corresponding to the MAC address, wherein the VTEP address identifies the second switch; and sending, by the SDN controller, the VTEP address to the first switch.
