Light weight thermoformable and flame retardant materials and structures for aviation and transportation applications in the form of foamed extrudate sheets of polycarbonate/polyphosphonate compounded into branched polycarbonate of high molecular weight with uniform foam cell geometry and flame retardancy. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present disclosure.

1. A laminate extruded composition comprising:
a pair of opposed top and bottom non-foamed layers; at least one interposed middle foamed layer, the middle foamed layer foamed using supercritical fluids; each of said layers comprising a flame retardant copolyphosphonate, the copolyphosphonate having a weight average molecular weight of between approximately 10,000 g/mole to about 100,000 g/mole, the copolyphosphonate having a polydispersity of between approximately 2 to about 7, the copolyphosphonate having a single glass transition temperature; a percentage ratio of the at least three layers ranging from approximately ˜7-13%/˜75-85%/˜7-13%, the at least three layers totaling 100%, a total thickness of the three layers ranging from approximately 0.040″ to 0.500″; and the laminate having an OSU Heat Release Total value of <65 kW min/m2 and an OSU Heat Release Peak value of <65 kW/m2.
