Moving-chamber apparatus for granular or liquid materials. - For delivering measured volumes of liquids, particularly mercury, or of granulated solids, a recess E in a rotating valve C is filled from a cup H and passes its contents by way of a pipe F to one of a series of cups arranged spirally on a rotating table K, the bearings J for which are slidably mounted within the base A. The cup H is situated within a reservoir G and a constant head of liquid is maintained above the measuring valve by means of a dredger I. Sprocket and chain gearing actuate the valve and dredger, while the end of the main shaft carries a pinion N in mesh with a spiral rack beneath the table K. A fixed rack in the base A of the apparatus meshes with a pinion L on the table spindle. An endless band may replace the table K, with a pulley or chain wheel in place of the pinion N. Reversing gear is fitted to the main shaft, and by linkwork is put into neutral position when the sliding bearing J reaches the end of its travel in either direction.</p> |
