Rowing-apparatus comprises a pair of spaced foldable rails on which a sliding seat is removably mounted upon which an operator sits with his feet against an adjustable foot rest, tension straps attached to hand grips for pulling exercises, and other tension straps attachable to the seat for pushing exercises. As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the track section comprises a pair of channel rail sections 12, 13, hinged together by a rule joint 14 and spaced apart by a brace bar 15 and end plates 16, 17. The brace bar serves as a hand grip and the underside of the sections is provided with spaced feet 18 for supporting the track above the floor in a forwardly inclined position. The seat, Fig. 10, comprises an undercarriage 20 with rollers 22 to run in the channel rails and has pivoted thereto a seat 19 supported by a spring 23 and guide by arcuate grooves 25 engaging similar projecting lugs 24 on the carriage. The seat carries a strap harness 26 for attachment to the waist of the user. The foot rest comprises legs 27, Figs. 4 and 11, pivoted to the end plate 17 and provided with links 30 having cam slots 31 engaging pins 33 with spring actuated knobs 35 as shown in Fig. 12 for locking the rest in the folded or set-up position. A transverse bar 37 with foot plates 38 is pivoted to the free ends of the legs 27. Between the toes of the plates 38 are mounted rollers 40 around which pass pull straps 53 attached at one end to separate or pivotally connected hand grips 54 and attached at the other end, by eyes 52 and coupling members 51, to tension springs 50. The outer tension spring members 49 are connected by snap fasteners 60 to eyes 61 on the seat. The rear ends of the springs have headed pins 48, Fig. 9; for engaging notches 47 in the flange of an anchor plate 41 slidably mounted on the underside of the end plate 16. The anchor plate is provided with a slot 42 having an enlarged recess at its inner end for the reception of a spring- controlled locking knob 44 mounted on a pin or bolt 45.
