A vibration dampening device comprising: a stack of permanent magnets having a plurality of cross-sectional areas, wherein the permanent magnets are electrically coupled in series with each other, wherein directly adjacent permanent magnets in the stack of permanent magnets are oriented to magnetically attract each other, wherein the stack comprises a plurality of large cross-sectional area permanent magnets and a plurality of small cross-sectional area permanent magnets, and wherein at least one of the small cross-sectional area permanent magnets is disposed between two of the large cross-sectional area permanent magnets; a first electrical conductor mechanically coupled to one end of the stack; a second electrical conductor mechanically coupled to another end of the stack, wherein the first and second electrical conductors are electrically coupled to each other via the stack; an insulating sheath disposed around the stack of permanent magnets; and a dampening fluid disposed within the sheath and around the stack of permanent magnets, wherein the dampening fluid is interposed between the two large cross-sectional area permanent magnets in a region outside a circumference of the at least one of the small cross-sectional area permanent magnets.
