A terminal assembly for conducting current from an external power source to a hermetical motor-compressor unit of a refrigeration system, comprising: a terminal board; an opening defined through the thickness of the terminal board; a conductive pin received in the opening; and an insulator having a convoluted contour, the insulator being disposed over the conductive pin and spaced away from the terminal board, wherein the convoluted contour of the insulator has a back and forth lengthened path, wherein the insulator has an inner radial wall defining an insulator opening, an outer radial wall and an annular recess defined between the inner and outer radial walls, the insulator opening being sized to receive the conductive pin, wherein the annular recess forms the convoluted contour of the insulator, wherein the conductive pin is configured to be insulated from the terminal board partially by refrigerant, wherein the inner radial wall and the outer radial wall both form at least part of the convoluted contour of the insulator; a bottom surface of the inner radial wall and a bottom surface of the outer radial wall share a same plane, and a top surface of the inner radial wall and a top surface of the outer radial wall share a same plane; the two planes being positioned parallel from each other, and wherein a gap is formed between the terminal board and a bottom surface of the insulator such that a side surface of a section of the conductive pin positioned between the terminal board and the bottom surface of the insulator is exposed to the refrigerant.
