发明名称 Improvements in and relating to apparatus for the supply of chlorine or other gas for the treatment of liquids
摘要
307,473. Wallace & Tiernan Co., Inc., (Assignees of Peet, G. D.). March 8, 1928, [Convention date] Chlorinating.-Chlorine gas for the treatment of water, sewage, &c. is supplied at a controlled and measured rate from a tank of liquid chlorine or other source of supply under pressure to an aspirator through which the liquid to be treated or an auxiliary flow of water is passed. The apparatus is shown diagrammatically in Fig. 7. From the source under pressure the chlorine passes through a pipe 10, control valves 43, 12, a pipe 13, a metering device 14, a pipe 16, a suction chamber 17, and a pipe 18 with non-return valve 55 to the aspirator 20. The valve 43 which governs the supply of gas from the pipe 10 to the valve 12 is connected to a diaphragm 40, which is acted on by springs and subject to the pressure of the gas on either side of the valve 12, this arrangement assuring a constant drop of pressure across the orifice of the valve 12 for any setting of the valve. The pipe 13 is of small bore and may be of silver. The metering device 14 is of the pulsating kind and comprises a bell-shaped member from which the gas is discharged through an inverted siphon 61. The chamber 15 surrounding the meter is connected by a pipe 27 with a tank 25 in which water is maintained at a constant level. In order that there may be no substantial back-flow through the pipe 27, its inlet end is provided with a disc 63 of porous and permeable material. To prevent the flow of liquid from the meter in case of the formation of a partial vacuum in the pipe 13, the pipe is connected to the atmosphere through a liquid seal in a chamber 45. The suction chamber 17 is connected to the tank 25 by a pipe 26. The aspirator is of such capacity that some water is drawn through the pipe 18 with the gas. A pressure relief tube 50 extends upwards from below the normal water level in the chamber 17 to a chamber 51 in which gas and water can separate, the water passing back to the chamber 17 while gas passes away through a pipe 52 for discharge outside the building in, which the apparatus is located. The pipe 50 and associated parts may also, if necessary, serve as a vacuum-relief device. The tank 25 is supplied through a ball and cock from the pipe through which water passes to the aspirator. The tank has a partition 31 and an overflow pipe 32. If the apparatus is arranged so that, when the flow of water to be treated is stopped, the supply of water to the aspirator is automatically cut off, an auxiliary aspirator 65, Fig. 11, having a suction pipe 66 the end of which is located at about the normal water level in the chamber 17, is provided to draw off the chlorine which continues to flow into this chamber. In a working form of the apparatus, the operating and connecting parts are mounted on or within a head casing 100, Fig, 2, on a hollow pedestal 101. The water supply and discharge pipes and the overflow pipe from the tank 25 are located within the pedestal. The pressure-reducing and flow-control valves for the chlorine are in a recess in the side of the casing 100. The chambers 15, 17 and 45 are sideby-side on one side of the casing and are provided with transparent walls. The aspirator is arranged in a casing at another side of the casing 100, and a strainer for the water is provided in the casing below the aspirator.
