A method for mounting a device at a server in a network comprising one or more anchors for physically attaching the device, one or more servers for mounting the device, and a network infrastructure in form of a software-defined network for connecting the anchors with the servers, the method comprising: a) attaching the device at an anchor, b) setting up a virtualized connection between the anchor and a server based on a predefined anchor configuration, c) encoding temporary device information into a network flow generated by the device, d) attempting to mount the device at the server and e) providing at least one of functions or data to the mounted device by the server based on a successful mounting in step d), f) selecting another server for mounting the device based on an unsuccessful mounting in step d), and g) identifying and redirecting the network flow of the device to the selected server by installing one or more forwarding rules on one or more forwarding elements of the software defined network using the temporary device information for identification of the network flow of the mounted device.
