摘要 A spacecraft network management system includes five functional entities, namely, attendant, accessor, collector, logic, and logic watchdog in a distributed architecture configured with both in-band and out-of-band data paths. Management data is structured so that it can travel over either in-band or out-of-band and be identified as such; user data travels over in-band paths. These five entities are distributed over the units of the design and then a modified set of otherwise standard elements are assigned to each entity depending on the nature of its function. These elements include managers, management agents, device agents, device management information base, and manager management information base that enable the entities to perform their respective functions.

A network management system, comprising: entities; common elements; components; and data paths connecting said entities, said common elements and said components, said data paths passing user data and network management data, said data paths including in-band paths and out-of-band paths, said user data passing over in-band paths and said network management data passing over out-of-band paths and in-band paths, said network management data being framed differently than user data, said entities including an attendant entity, an accessor entity, a collector entity, a logic entity, and a watchdog entity, said entities providing network management data, wherein said attendant entity has an in-band portion and an opposing out-of-band portion, said in-band portion containing said components of said network management system and providing access to components external to said network management system via said in-band and said out-of-band paths, said out-of-band portion containing controls, wherein said accessor entity has an in-band portion and an opposing out-of-band portion and is connected between said attendant entity and said collector entity, said logic entity and said logic watchdog entity via said in-band paths and said out-of-band paths, said accessor entity requests network management data, makes changes in the configuration of the network management system and executes the tasks of said logic watchdog entity, wherein said collector entity is connected to said logic entity and said logic watchdog entity and gathers and organizes network management data from the accessor entity, wherein said logic entity gathers network management data from the collector for making network management decisions, and wherein said logic watchdog entity monitors said logic entity for failure, for correct operation, and for ability to communicate with the accessor and collector entities.
