PURPOSE:To decrease internal resistance and prevent the swelling of a battery attendant on charge/discharge cycles by forming the central part of an oval spiral electrode group out of an electrolyte resistant, elastic body. CONSTITUTION:An electrode group is formed by ellipsoidally, spirally winding a negative electrode 2 made of a material capable of absorbing/desorbing lithium and a positive electrode 1 through a separator 3. An electrolyte resistant, elastic, open-cell polyethylene foam 9 is inserted into the hollow part of the electrode group formed by drawing out a winding core, then the electrode group is inserted into a battery case 4. Since the elastic body prevents the warping of the electrode group to the hollow part, internal resistance is decreased, and the swelling of the electrodes 1, 2 attendant on the advance of charge/discharge cycles is absorbed to prevent the swelling of a battery. |
