A gas distribution element for a fuel cell or an electrolyzing device comprising in sequence a base layer, a first layer and a second layer, whereby said first and second layers are disposed with a gas distribution structure forming a pattern for a fluid flow of a first reactant fluid which is a combustible gas, wherein the second layer is a homogenizing element, which has first apertures, wherein the first apertures have a length and a width, with the length being greater than the width, wherein the first layer comprises a fuel inlet and a fuel outlet wherein the main direction of fluid flow extending in linear direction between the fuel inlet and the fuel outlet, that the gas distribution structure of said first layer consisting of a plurality of channels arranged one beside the other, extending linear in the main direction of fluid flow and connecting the fuel inlet with the fuel outlet, that the first apertures, extending in transverse direction with respect to the channels, have such length and are arranged such that at least two channels arranged one beside the other are fluidly connected by the first aperture, and that the second layer comprises a contacting surface to contact a cathode-anode-electrolyte unit, wherein the first apertures are arranged within the contacting surface, and wherein the total surface of all first apertures is at least 20% of the contacting surface.
