Nematic liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device using the same

The liquid crystal composition of the present invention is used for liquid crystal display devices of an IPS mode, a TN mode, and the like that have a high response speed and do not easily cause display defectiveness such as ghosting or dropping marks. The liquid crystal composition contains a component which is a dielectrically positive component containing a dielectrically positive compound and a dielectrically neutral component which exhibits dielectric anisotropy greater than −2 and smaller than +2. The liquid crystal composition has excellent properties in which the composition forms a liquid crystal phase in a wide temperature range, has a low viscosity, dissolves excellently at a low temperature, has a high degree of specific resistance and voltage holding ratio, and is stable with respect to heat or light.

1. A liquid crystal composition having positive dielectric anisotropy, consisting of:
a dielectrically positive compound represented by Formula (1.1);and;
14% by mass or more of a compound represented by Formula (1.2): a compound represented by Formula (3.3): at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by Formulae (4.1), (4.2) and (4.3):  and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of the compounds represented by General formulae (I), (III), (VII), (X), (IV), (II), wherein R11 represents an alkyl group having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, each of X11 to X14 independently represents a fluorine atom or a hydrogen atom, Y11 represents a fluorine atom, A11 represents a 1,4-phenylene group, a 1,4-cyclohexylene group,A12 represents a 1,4-phenylene group or a 1,4-cyclohexylene group, and Q11 represents a single bond or —CF2O—, wherein R31 represents an alkyl group having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, each of X31 and X32 independently represents a fluorine atom or a hydrogen atom, Y31 represents a fluorine atom, Q31 represents a single bond or —CF2O—, and m is 0 or 1, wherein each of R71 and R72 independently represents an alkyl or alkenyl group having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, each of X71 or X72 independently represents a fluorine atom or a hydrogen atom, A71 represents a 1,4-cyclohexylene group, and each of m and n independently represents 0 or 1, wherein each of R51 and R52 independently represents an alkyl or alkoxy group having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, and X51 represents a fluorine atom or a hydrogen atom, wherein each of R41 and R42 indeendently represents an alkyl group having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, Q41 represents a single bond, —CH2CH2—, or —COO—, wherein R21 represents an alkyl group having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, each of X21 to X25 independently represents a fluorine atom or a hydrogen atom, Q21 represents a single bond or —CF2O—, Y21 represents a fluorine atom, and A21 represents a 1,4-phenylene group or a 1,4-cyclohexylene group.
