M2M SERVICE ENABLEMENT OVER ACCESS NETWORKS

Upon attachment of a machine to machine (M2M) device to a network, the access network determines which service provider to connect the device to. During an initial attachment process, the device can be configured so that it only will connect to a defined M2M service provider.

1. A method for obtaining access network configuration parameters at a machine to machine (M2M) device, the method comprising:
connecting to an access network; receiving temporary access network configuration parameters in response to the connection; registering with a M2M service provider over the access network using the received temporary access network configuration parameters; receiving a response to the registration with the M2M service provider; and setting permanent access network configuration parameters in accordance with the received response.
