TRANSVERSE CONNECTOR

A transverse connector system having a first and a second locking element. The present invention also provides transverse rod having opposing first and second ends, the first end being retained within a portion of the first locking element and the second end being retained within a portion of the second locking element. The first locking element is configured with a connector body for engaging and capturing an elongated rod and a transverse rod simultaneously.

1. A surgical system comprising:
a first elongate rod configured to extend in a direction of a spine; a second elongate rod configured to extend in the direction of the spine; a transverse rod configured to extend in a direction transverse to the direction of the spine; a first locking member comprising a first connector body having a first opening for receiving the transverse rod and a first hook element having a first recess for receiving the first elongate rod, wherein the first opening and first recess each define a central longitudinal axis extending therethrough, the first opening and first recess being offset from each other such that the central longitudinal axis of the first opening and the central longitudinal axis of the first recess do not intersect; and a second locking member comprising a second connector body having a second opening for receiving the transverse rod and a second hook element have a second recess for receive the second elongate rod.
