The gasket welding apparatus (10) comprises a heating element (30), the heating element (30) is moveable between a first position in which it is removed from the clamping members and a second position in which it is disposed between the clamping members.

1. A gasket welding apparatus comprising:
a first clamping member for supporting a first length of gasket material, the first clamping members comprising a first pair of jaws being moveable towards and away from one another; a second clamping member for supporting a second length of gasket material, the second clamping member comprising a second pair of jaws being moveable towards and away from one another; the first and second clamping members being movable with respect to each other; a first actuator for moving the first and second clamping members towards and away from one another; a heating element, the heating element being moveable between a first position in which it is removed from the clamping members and a second position in which it is disposed between the clamping members; a second actuator for moving the heating element between the first position and the second position; and a control unit for controlling operation of the first and second actuators.
