1. A method for treating a microbial infection in a subject, comprising
administering to the subject an effective amount of an efflux pump inhibitor of the following formula:or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug thereof, wherein
L is a direct bond or a substituted or unsubstituted linking unit; R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, hydroxyl, cyano, nitro, trifluoromethyl, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted alkenyl, substituted or unsubstituted alkynyl, substituted or unsubstituted heteroalkyl, substituted or unsubstituted heteroalkenyl, substituted or unsubstituted heteroalkynyl, substituted or unsubstituted amino, substituted or unsubstituted aryl, substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl, substituted or unsubstituted alkoxyl, substituted or unsubstituted aryloxyl, substituted or unsubstituted carbonyl, substituted or unsubstituted carboxyl, or substituted or unsubstituted sulfonyl; and X is selected from the group consisting of substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted heteroalkyl, substituted or unsubstituted amino, substituted or unsubstituted aryl, substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl, substituted or unsubstituted alkoxyl, substituted or unsubstituted aryloxyl, substituted or unsubstituted sulfonyl, or substituted or unsubstituted carboxyl; and an antimicrobial agent. |
