Spindle apparatus; moistening, sizing, and treating yarns or threads.-Liquid is applied to travelling yarn or thread while it is passing over the circular edge of a guide member round and in contact with which it is revolving so that the liquid is swept from the edge by the passage of the yarn. The invention is particularly suitable for sizing, dyeing, or dressing yarns or threads of cellulose acetate or other organic derivatives of cellulose, and may be applied while twisting and winding in the production of such yarns by the dry or wet method or in any subsequent stage of manufacture. As shown, the invention is applied to cap spinning apparatus, Fig. 2, and to box spinning apparatus, Fig. 4, in each case the liquid being fed from a reservoir 8 to the side of the edge of the guide member, cap 5 or guide funnel 15, from which the thread leaves. The supply may be controlled so as to give a uniform or an. intermittent application, the latter method enabling multi-coloured or shading effects to be produced by using different dyes in compartments of the reservoir. The reservoir may be mounted' on the top of the cap or inside as shown by dotted lines 20. The bottom of the box may be recessed and apertured to facilitate the escape of surplus liquid, or may be provided with a recess 31 in a false bottom 30 for the same purpose. According to the Provisional Specification the liquid may be fed through a passage in the cap spindle.
