发明名称 Improvements in or relating to constructions for absorbing and dissipating sound
摘要 343,067. Modifying acoustical properties of buildings. JOHNS-MANVILLE CORPORATION, 292, Madison Avenue, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Nash, J. H. ; 146, Merion Avenue, Narberth, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Oct. 11, 1929, No. 30893. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1928. [Classes 20 (ii), 20 (iv), and 87 (i).] A wall or like construction or facing for absorbing and dissipating sound in buildings and interiors comprises a plurality of block-like members, mounted on a base and spaced apart to provide air channels therebetween. According to one construction, a base member 11 of sound dissipating material, such as hair felt or jute felt, has mounted thereon an intermediate layer 12 of different or similar material. Secured to the layer 12 is a plurality of facing units 13 of sound-absorbing material. The units 13 are spaced apart by open channels 14, the dimensions of which may be varied to suit the particular acoustic structure to which the units are applied. The exposed area of the blocks is preferably not greater than ten square inches, the channels being about <3>/16" in width and from ¢" to 1¢" in depth. The units 13 are preferably of porous material but may be either rigid and dense or flexible and resilient and are preferably secured to the layer 12 by a waterproof fire-resisting cement. In a modification, particularly adapted for archways and the like, the units are mounted on a flexible backing comprising sheets of fabrics made of vegetable fibres, such as jute, or non-inflammable fibres such as asbestos or the like. In further modifications, the units 13 are hexagonal or rectangular in shape. The blocks may be finished with paint, dyes, ground slate, ceramics or like decoration.
