a barrel; a plunger; a rod for operating the plunger; and a barrier assembly adjustable between an expanded position and an unexpanded position, the barrier assembly having a mesh sleeve configured to block passage of a particulate from an annular area above the mesh sleeve to an annular area below the mesh sleeve when the barrier assembly is in the expanded position, wherein the mesh sleeve is configured to allow fluid communication when in the expanded position.
