An integrated mass spectrometer electrospray emitter and fluorescence detector allows improved volumetric measurements of separate components from a liquid chromatography column by improving correlation between the readings of these instruments and reducing dead volume and sample size requirements.

1. An electrospray emitter for mass spectrometry and fluorescent spectroscopy comprising:
a conduit having a substantially continuous portion extending along a conduit axis and terminating at an orifice adapted to provide an electrospray ionization for a mass spectrometer; chromatographic packing material positioned within a chromatography portion of the continuous portion; a first filter fitting within the conduit and sized to block the chromatographic packing material; a second filter fitting within the conduit downstream from the first filter and sized to preserve a liquid pressure within the conduit; and a transparent analysis region positioned within the continuous portion between the first filter and the second filter adapted for fluorescent spectroscopy measurement; wherein a volume of a conduit between the orifice and the chromatography portion is less than 1 microliter.
