350,338. Shock-absorbers for railway vehicles &c. RHEINISCHE METALLWAAREN - UND - MASCHINENFABRIK, 195, Ulmenstrasse, Derendorf, Dusseldorf, Germany. Sept. 8, 1930, No, 26788. Convention date, Feb. 24. [Classes 103 (v) and 108 (iii).] In a hydraulic shock-absorbing device, such as a railway vehicle buffer or draw-gear, of the kind comprising a piston b working within a liquidcontaining chamber a, the gland f of the stuffing- box e through which the piston-rod c works forms an abutment for a buffing-spring h incorporated in the device, so that the pressure on the stuffing-box packing d increases as the hydraulic pressure increases. In the arrangement shown a single spring h is located between a plate g at the outer end of the piston-rod c and the gland f, which slides longitudinally within the stuffing-box. An elastic washer i limits the displacement of the gland f and consequently the compression of the packing. Modifications are described in which two buffing- springs are employed, only one of which bears upon the gland f, and in which the gland f has a bayonetjoint connection with the stuffing-box. |
