[Class 39 (i)] An illuminating device comprises a vapourfilled high-pressure discharge lamp mounted in a cooling vessel which is provided with means for preventing the development of an excess pressure when the lamp bursts. A lamp 2 is mounted in a casing 1, and is secured through a member 6 to a rod 4 which connects one terminal of the lamp through a ring 9 and screw 19 to the earthed casing. The loading-in wire 5 is secured to a pin 8 adapted to fit into a socket 10 which is housed in an insulating block 13. The casing is secured to a ring 17 which is slidably mounted on a rod 14 screwed into the block 13. A spring 18 is arranged between the ring 17 and a fixed ring 16. A watertight box 20 is secured to the casing by a nut 21. Liquid supply and discharge pipes 22 are provided and a glass cover 23 is secured to the casing through rubber packing and a nut 26. A valve 27, provided with a reflector 30, is controlled by a spring 28, which is mounted on a rod 32 secured to a yoke 29 carried by the tubes 22. In other forms, the water container is fitted with a rubber disc, secured thereto by rivets, or is fitted at the top thereof with a gas-filled expansion chamber. |
