A pneumatic tyre having a carcass and a belt reinforcing structure (40, see figure 1) is disclosed. The belt reinforcing structure comprises a belt 70, 92 formed by winding a rubberized strip 41 comprising reinforcement cords 44, 46. The strip is formed from or comprises at least one first reinforcement cord and at least one second reinforcement cord. The first reinforcement cord is formed of a higher modulus material than the second reinforcement cord or the first reinforcement cord has a higher modulus than the second reinforcement cord. Additionally, the first reinforcement cord may have a tangent modulus at 80% of break greater than 5000 MPa wherein the second cord has a tangent modulus at 80% of break less than 5000 MPa. The two second reinforcement cords may be located at each lateral end of the strip or the first cord may be located between the second reinforcement cords. The cords may be formed of nylon or aramid. Finally, the belt may be a zigzag belt or a helically wound belt. |
