A subsea production system and method therefore comprising a high pressure subsea wellhead 12, a tubing head spool 16 on the well-head, a tubing hanger 70 within the spool, a production tree 18 disposed on the spool, a riser (24, fig 1) and a subsea flow line (22, fig 1) between the tree and the riser. The system includes at least one barrier (fig 1, 38) within the system to maintain a pressure barrier between components of the system upstream and downstream of the barrier. The barrier allowing components rated for different pressures temperatures or flow rates to be used either side of the barrier. The barrier may be disposed in the tree, the tubing head spool, the wellhead or the tubing hanger. The barrier may also be formed by a high integrity pipeline protection system coupled to the tree or between the flow-line and the riser. Preferably the barrier is modular and comprises at least one choke between the tree and the flow-line and at least one choke upstream of the tubing hanger. |
