A computer implemented method of searching a set of events wherein each event has associated spatial attributes in a multi-dimensional space 300 (e.g. 2D or 3D space), the method comprises: receiving a search profile definition including: a definition of a template spatial region having a shape and dimensions; an identification of a plurality of analytic functions (e.g. spatial clustering functions, spatiotemporal functions); a specification of one or more parameters for each identified function; and a first result set including output of each of the functions applied to events associated with a first spatial region of the space in accordance with the template and based on the parameters; applying the functions to a second spatial region of the space in accordance with the template and based on the parameters to generate a second result set for comparison with the first result set to identify similar regions as search results. In one embodiment the template is spatiotemporal such that the template defines not only a shape and dimensions of a spatial region but also temporal constraints such as a time period, range, time thresholds or limits or other constraints on temporal characteristics. |
