A method of operating a stairlift system comprising seat 21, drive means 5 to drive the carriage assembly along the rail 1, at least a first battery pack 4 arranged to power the drive means 3, input means 5 operable by a user to provide an input signal indicative of a desired movement of the carriage assembly along the rail, and control means 6 arranged to receive said input signal and control said drive means 3 in response to said input signal, and charging means 7 arranged to charge said first battery pack when the carriage assembly is at at least one charging position 73 on the rail 1, is disclosed, the system is arranged such that a voltage of the at least one battery pack 4 is monitored, and when the voltage falls below a pre-determined threshold, movement is inhibited. In some arrangements, the stairlift instead returns to a charge point 73 to recharge when the voltage falls beyond a first threshold. |
