1. A gaming system comprising:
a credit input mechanism configured to receive a physical item associated with a monetary value for establishing a credit balance, the credit balance being increasable and decreasable based at least on wagering activity; a display comprising a first display area having a plurality of first display positions and a second display area having a plurality of second display positions; a first set of first symbols; a second set of second symbols; a game controller configured to, in accord with having established the credit balance via the credit input mechanism receiving the physical item, implement a first base game in said first display area, said first base game having a first outcome, said game controller including a first selector configured to select a plurality of said first symbols for the first base game, said first symbols being displayed in the plurality of first display positions, and wherein said first outcome is dependent on the selected first base game symbols; said game controller configured to, in accord with having established the credit balance via the credit input mechanism receiving the physical item, implement a second base game in said second display area, said second base game having a second outcome, said game controller including a second selector configured to select a plurality of said second symbols for the second base game, said second symbols being displayed in the plurality of second display positions, and wherein said second outcome is dependent on the selected second base game symbols; a trigger determiner configured to determine across both said first display area and said second display area whether a combination of at least one of the displayed said first game symbols and at least one of said displayed second game symbols satisfies a trigger condition; and a special game implementer responsive to said trigger determiner, said special game implementer configured to implement a game event in response to said combination satisfying said trigger condition.
