A five mirror all-reflective afocal optical system comprising: a positive-powered primary mirror arranged and configured to receive and reflect collimated electromagnetic radiation received via an entrance pupil of the afocal optical system; a negative-powered second mirror arranged and configured to receive and further reflect the electromagnetic radiation reflected from the primary mirror; a positive-powered third mirror arranged and configured to receive and further reflect the electromagnetic radiation reflected from the secondary mirror; a negative-powered fourth mirror arranged and configured to receive and further reflect the electromagnetic radiation reflected from the tertiary mirror to form an intermediate image; and a positive-powered fifth mirror configured to receive and re-collimate the electromagnetic radiation reflected from the quaternary mirror and to reflect the re-collimated electromagnetic radiation through an exit pupil of the afocal optical system.
