The embodiments of the present invention relate to the technical field of communications, and disclose a short message processing method and a user terminal. The method comprises: when a communication application of a user terminal has an exception, the user terminal can detect whether a short message database contains an unread short message which is not read by a short message application; if so, a short message identifier of the unread short message can be acquired from the short message database after the user terminal is restarted, wherein the short message identifier comprises a network type of a network used when the unread short message is received; and the user terminal would report a notification message to the short message application in a reporting mode corresponding to the network type, so as to instruct the short message application to read the unread short message from the short message database. In this way, the problem of repeatedly reporting the existence of an unread short message to a short message application after a user terminal has an exception and is restarted can be avoided, thereby reducing power consumption of the user terminal. |
