A hydrogel comprising water, a gel strength improver, and a polymer matrix that contains the water and the gel strength improver, wherein the polymer matrix comprises a copolymer of a monofunctional monomer having one ethylenically unsaturated group and a polyfunctional monomer having two to six ethylenically unsaturated groups, the copolymer has a hydrophilic group that bonds to the main chain of the copolymer, and the breaking strength and the breaking elongation of the hydrogel as measured in a tensile test are 5 kPa or more and 200% or more, respectively.
