The invention relates to a method for monitoring a battery, wherein at least one variable of the battery is sensed and the behavior of said variable over time is mathematically analyzed by means of an algorithm such that a variable derived therefrom results, wherein a fault of the battery is detected if the at least one derived variable exceeds a threshold value.
