Sensor 100 detects that a movable entity is in a particular position. Signal supply means 3 applies a time-varying signal (S, Fig. 3) to first electrode 11b of base 1. Signal S couples capacitively to first electrode 21 of movable entity 2 when movable entity 2, which may comprise a container (2001, Fig. 26) for solid or liquid contents (B, fig. 26), is in first position P1b relative to base 1. Movable entity 2 contains circuitry, eg resistor 23 connected to second electrode 22 that may couple to second base electrode 12b. Signal detection means 4 may detect a signal at first moveable entity electrode 21, or at first or second base electrodes 11b or 12 b. Resistor 23 or other circuitry may be arranged such that movable entity 2 can be identified from the detected signal characteristics, and be capacitively powered. Electrodes 11, 12, 21, 22 may have rectangular, circular, annular, or circle sector geometries. Movable entity 2 may comprise a further second electrode and resistor to detect a second position. Base 1 may contain further pairs of first and second electrodes 11a and 12a. Multiple movable entities (2a, 2b, Fig. 3) may be used with base 1. |
