Aug. 11, 1930, No. 23966. [Class 51 (ii).] A form of the melting furnace described in Specification 324,339, [Class 51 (ii), Furnaces and kilns for applying &c.], which is modified so that it can be continuously rocked during melting comprises a metal casing a with a refractory lining b shaped to form a hearth of semi-circular cross section, a stationary burner f at one end inclined downwards so that the flame will impinge both on the charge and on the walls exposed during the rocking of the furnace, a combined chimney and feed shaft k at the opposite end, a hood l shaped to receive the exhaust gases in all angular positions of the furnace, a charging door and air heating pipes l<2> in the hood, and a fan by which air may be forced through the pipes and fed to the burner. Slagging and tapping spouts are provided at opposite sides of the hearth. The furnace is mounted on rollers g and is rocked by pinions i engaging arcuate racks h.</p> |
