Vacuum cleaner and method for operating same dependent on operating duration

The method involves detecting operating time of a suction blower (4). Power of the suction blower is increased depending on the operating time of the suction blower of a vacuum cleaner (1). Reach of threshold values for the operating time is indicated to a user by a signal. Dust content in a suction air stream is determined. Operating time depending on increase of power of the suction blower and/or the threshold values for the operating time is changed depending on the determined dust content. The detected operating time of the blower is automatically reset during cleaning of the cleaner. An independent claim is also included for a vacuum cleaner.
