Cells; hydrogen and o x y g e n, obtaining; electrolytes, circulating and purifying. - In a cell for generating oxygen and hydrogen the gas offtake pipes g from one set of collecting bells c enter and project well above the bottom of a main collecting pipe f. Electrolyte carried along with the gas returns to the bottom of the cell by a pipe k. The liquid space at the bottom of the pipe f may be separated off by a perforated partition, but this is not necessary. A drawoff cock m is provided near the end of the pipe f which may be utilized to blow off any scum from the separated electrolyte. Similar collecting means are provided for the other gas. Sodium or potassium hydroxide solution is used as electrolyte. |
