Using Communication Devices for Providing Network Access

Described herein are apparatuses, methods, and computer readable media for using a communication device for providing network access to network devices on a network. An exemplary communication device may provide voice communication to a network device or a device other than the network device, and also provide network access to the network device. In order to provide network access, the communication device may comprise a network communication unit. In order to provide voice communication, the communication device may comprise a telecommunication unit. Both the network communication unit and the telecommunication unit may be activated or deactivated by the communication device or by a network controller on the network.

1. A communication device for providing network access to a network device on a network, the communication device comprising:
a network communication unit; a telecommunication unit; a memory configured to store instructions; a processor coupled to the network communication unit, the telecommunication unit, and the memory, that, upon executing the instructions stored in the memory, is configured to: cause the network communication unit to provide the network access to the network device, and cause the telecommunication unit to provide voice communication to the network device or a device other than the network device.
