The invention relates to a control unit (10) for a vehicle, comprising a housing (26) with a front face on which a control element (12) having a centre of gravity (40) and a control surface (14) is arranged. Said control element (12) is mounted on and/or in the housing (26) in a spring-elastic manner along a vertical axis of movement (18) extending essentially perpendicular to the control surface (14) and along a lateral movement axis (20) extending essentially transversely with respect thereto. At least one sensor (28) for detecting an actuation movement of the control element (12) in the direction of the vertical movement axis (18) is provided. Also, the control element (10) comprises an actuator (32) arranged in and/or on the housing (26) for feedback movement of the control element (12) at least also in the lateral movement axis (20) during a detected actuating movement of the operating element (12). The actuator (32) comprises an electromagnetically controllable drive element (34) which is mechanically coupled to the control element (12) which can be moved back and forth along a movement axis (38). The centre of gravity (40) of the operating element (12) lies on the movement axis (38) of the drive element (34) of the actuator (32).
