[Problem] To provide a linear motion/rotation detector capable of inhibiting an increase in size in the linear motion direction. [Solution] This linear motion/rotation detector 7 is provided with: a cylindrical magnetic scale 8 which moves linearly in the axial direction X, and rotates around the axis L; a first magnetic detection element 41 for detecting the linear motion position; and a second magnetic detection element 42 for detecting the rotational position. The magnetic scale 8 has, provided to the circumferential surface, a grid-like magnetization pattern 37 in which S poles and N poles are alternately arranged in the axial direction X, and the S poles and the N poles are alternately magnetized around the axis L. The first magnetic detection element 41 and the second magnetic detection element 42 are disposed facing the magnetization pattern 37. The linear motion position and the rotational position can be detected by the first magnetic detection element 41 and the second magnetic detection element 42 which face the same magnetization pattern, and thus there is no need to dispose a linear motion scale and a rotational scale in different positions in the axial direction X. Accordingly, this linear motion/rotation detector 7 is capable of inhibiting an increase in size in the axial direction X. |
