Provided is an adaptive conversion method for an image, comprising: calculating colour saturation degree and original grayscale values of various primary colour components of a pixel point of an RGB image; calculating global gain values of various pixel points on this basis; according to the global gain values and the colour saturation degree of each pixel point, calculating a total gain value of each pixel point; and according to the total gain value of each pixel point, adding gain to the grayscale values of the white light component and the various primary colour components of each pixel point so as to output an RGBW image. When realizing colour space conversion from RGB to RGBW, the present invention can improve the colour saturation degree deviation and ensure the display quality thereof while improving the display brightness of a display panel.
