[Class 31 (i).] In forming cartons or linings therefor the carton or lining material 57<1> is fed from a roll 57 by rollers 44, 45, the upper roller 44 being carried in adjustable blocks 47 and geared to the lower roller 45 which is geared to a spindle 75 carrying a ratchet wheel 76 engaged by pawls 77 pivoted on a disc 78 oscillated by an adjustably-connected arm 79 and link 80 from the shaft 42 which is geared to the shaft 26 : backward movement of the spindle 75 is prevented by a pawl 168 engaging a ratchet wheel 167 and a brake 169 prevents over-running of the rollers. The material 57<1> is fed between a fixed knife 61 and a pivoted knife 63 to guide rails 43 and, preferably, on to a supporting- palm 84 which is carried by an arm 85 reciprocated to move inwards and receive the end of the web fed by the rollers 44, 45 and then to move outwards to support such end as the rollers feed the web forward. The knife 63 is actuated at the end of the web-feeding movement, to sever the projected length of blank from the web by a cam 67 engaging a roller 66 carried by an arm pivotally connected to the knife ; the arm 65 is slotted to engage the cam shaft 68 which is geared to the shaft 26 and the roller 66 is forced against the cam by a spring 631. |
