Disclosed are a drive device and a liquid crystal display. The drive device (100) comprises a time-sequence control chip (110) and a data drive chip (120). The time-sequence control chip (110) is connected to the data drive chip (120). The time-sequence control chip (110) is used for selectively receiving gray values of pixel points the quantity of which is a second value among gray values of pixel points the quantity of which is a first value, and then sending the gray values to the data drive chip (120), the first value and the second value being both positive integers, and the first value being greater than the second value. The data drive chip (120) is used for receiving the gray values of pixel points the quantity of which is the second value, which are sent by the time-sequence control chip (110), and is used for outputting the gray values of pixel points the interpolated quantity of which is the first value so as to drive the liquid crystal display. The drive device can reduce the complexity of the time-sequence control chip (110).
