The present invention includes: a positive first group G1 that is disposed farthest to the object side; a negative intermediate group G2 that is disposed more toward the image side than the first group G1; a positive focusing group G3 that is disposed more toward the image side than the intermediate group G2 and moves during focusing; and a positive image-side group G4 that is disposed more toward the image side than the focusing group G3. When varying magnification, the spacing between the first group G1 and the intermediate group G2, the spacing between the intermediate group G2 and the focusing group G3, and the spacing between the focusing group G3 and the image-side group G4 are changed so as to satisfy a prescribed conditional expression. It is thus possible to provide a variable magnification optical system and the like having excellent optical performance, as well as a more lightweight focusing group for a faster focusing operation. |
